The Norwegian Fjord Horse,, one of the world's oldest and purest breeds, dates back over 4,000 years when it was introduced in Norway.  It subsequently was selectively bred for over 2,ooo years, which gave the Fjord horse a reputation of being the agile, endearing, and trusted workhose for so many.  In Norway, the Fjord horse is held with such high regard by its people that they chose it as one of their national symbols.

The nature of the Norwegian Fjord Horse is one of its greatest qualities.  Possessing a charming, gentle disposition has earned the Fjord a place to call home with many families.  Their strong body and extraordinary power enables the breed to be used for all types of riding, driving, and draft work.  Ninety percent of all Fjords are brown dun in color.  The other ten percent consist of red, grey, white, or yellow duns.  Fjords also feature the primitive markings, which include zebra stripes on the legs and a dark dorsal strip that runs down their neck, back, and tail.

The breed standard for the Fjord horse ranges from 13-2 to 14-2 hands and weighs between 900 and 1200 pounds. Fjord horse's athletic movement is forward, even and true.  They have a ground covering walk, powerful trot and free moving canter.  It is a distinction that the Fjord horse is now making its name as a top competitor in sanctioned equine events as they compete in FEI level dressage, advance level ADS combined driving events, elite cariaqge driving, and AHSA approved hunter shows.  The Fjord with its calm and noble character, is more than often the breed winning in competition.  Their willingness to please, honest work ethid, and cleverness make for the perfect partner in the show world, behind a farm implement, or in your backyard.
